Clipbrowser v2 playback performance
What is the recommended PC and Mac spec to play back full screen 1080p 25fps XDCAM EX to a 1920x1080 computer monitor off SATA drives ?
I have a PC that seems to exceed the recommended by Sony spec for this software but I can't get smooth playback. Intel Pentium 4, 3.00 GHz, 2GB RAM Intel(R) Integrated Graphics 128MB 1920x1080 Dell 23" LCD computer display (max 60Hz at that res) |

Re: Clipbrowser v2 playback performance
Thanks Tom,
I'm using the same Samsung drive (externally) and unless I've got my MB/s and mbps mixed up then it and USB 2.0 can easily handle 35mbps XDCAM EX. I've done a doco using DVCPro50 a few years back using SATA drives and they were fine playing back one stream of around 180mbps 10-bit uncompressed - that was an old Dual G4 and only SD of course. I was thinking maybe it's the onboard graphics that's the problem but then it would manage a very small view surely ? So must be the processor perhaps - it's a tough codec. Your Core 2 Quad is a big step up from my Pentium 4. |

Re: Clipbrowser v2 playback performance
I've just found I can get smooth playback at fullscreen 1080p using VLC.
Not a solution for me but it helps diagnose the problem. I guess I might have to get newer hardware just to compensate for the Clipbrowser poor implementation. |

Re: Clipbrowser v2 playback performance
Try using XDcam Player (PDZ-VX10 ?) if you have files that have been converted to MXF. It works beautifully, looks better than either clip browser or VLC, and requires less in the way of computer resources than Clip Browser.
