is there a smaller Sony (EX-1) battery charger unit?
Hi there,
I'm on a shoot (far from home), realizing that I have extra SxS cards, and extra batteries, but just one battery-charger (the Sony unit that came with the EX-1). I'd like to bring a second, smaller unit along next time, if there is such a thing. Does anyone know if there's a smaller charger on the market, for the Sony batteries that power the EX-1? (it wouldn't have to double as DC power supply). thanks, Malcolm |

Leave the Sony home and pickup the DOLGIN dual battery charger. It's the bomb. It calculates how much charging each battery needs and splits the charging current between them so that they both are full at the same time.. That is, your most depleted battery will get more charge than the lesser depleted one. This is handy for when you can't get a full charge. At least your most depleted one will have enough charge to be useful.

Re: is there a smaller Sony (EX-1) battery charger unit?
Hi Les,
Thanks for this, but I really want a nice small charger, if there is one. In the past, when I've purchased smaller Sony cameras, I was usually able to get just such a thing, that was much smaller because it didn't double as DC power; it had a plug unit that swivelled out from the charger itself, to save space. That's what I'd like as a backup charger for away-from-home shoots. Does a smaller charger like this exist? Regards, Malcolm |

I think you are saying you want a travel charger for the EX1 like you could get on consumer cameras. The only other chargers I found were for the SWIT and SWITRONICS batteries and charge thru the D-TAP connector:

Les, thanks so much for posting these links. Please tell me... would the PB70C charge my Sony EX-1 (I have a big one and a small one) batteries?

Malcolm,
Those are only for the aftermarket batteries with the D-Tap connector. They won't charge the stock Sony batteries.

O.K., thanks Chris.
I guess I'll just continue to baby my current Sony charger (I don't want to have to buy any more batteries, along with another battery-charger). Regards, Malcolm |
