SxS-1 32GB and EX1
Has anyone used the new SxS-1 card in the EX1 and does the EX1 require a firmware upgrade?
Thanks |

No and, most likely, yes.
There is a great long thread on firmware upgrading on here that has the info about which firmware version needed.... and the care and some good tips needed in upgrading the EX1 to avoid bricking it in several threads. Be sure to read them and proceed very carefully if you want to upgrade the firmware. This should get you going. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-xdc...available.html Also, look on the Sony Pro Broadcast video sites for more specific info.

I should add that my EX1 can work with the original 32GB.

I finally did the firmware upgrade last week.
My tips are to do it from a laptop that is plugged into the mains. You'll also need a jewellers screwdriver to remove the screw from the EX1's special USB socket. What the upgrade process doesn't tell you is that at the end of the process you need to totally power down the camera, remove the mains and remove any battery before it will reboot, And this may take an age. Or it seems like an age. It also takes a while to boot into media mode the first time as well. After that it's fine. It was simple but take your time when you do it.

I have an original EX1. With the firmware upgrade the new SXS-1 cards (32 gig) work like a charm. 110 minutes of recording time. I sold off my 8 gig cards to buy it and I LOVE IT. I can usually go a whole shoot on one card, or two at the most.
