How important with baseplate to EX1R?
I'm shooting with tripod, and does not carry my equipment "over the shoulder". Is it really necessary with an extra baseplate like Olof's solution to my EX1R?

Yes - I'd recommend using Olof's solution even with "naked" camera on the tripod.
Just realize a sudden need to change place - you're tempted to fold you tripod with camera still on, and walk the desired distance with it on your shoulder... Without strengthening, the tripod socket on the camera might not stand it!

I have Olof's plate for an EX1 ... now. It cost me £900 to have my EX1tripod fixing repaired when it gave way. I know the EX1R is stronger but better to be safe than sorry.

I use the Juiced base plate and it makes the camera much more stable when using a tripod. race-dezert.com Store - Sony EX1 Base Plate
