EX3 zoom ring has play in it.
Is it normal for the zoom ring to have some play in it? The zoom ring on my EX3 is not very tight and I can move is slightly before it actually changes the zoom. Is this normal or do I have to get it checked out?
Thanks, Garrett |

Garrett, mine has a little play in it. But it does not effect zooming, when you change zoom direction there is a bit of free play.
This does not effect my very smooth power zoom on that camera, smoother than my EX1R.

Thanks Olof,
That sounds like how my EX3 lens is too. I use to have a Canon XL H1a. The zoom ring on that had a much nicer feel even though it was a pure servo. BTW, I still need to post up some footage I shot using your improved plate and shoulder attachment on my EX3. A huge improvement. On some shots you can almost not tell it was handheld (or really shoulder held). I'm in the process of making a battery holder that is up at an angle so that I can keep the CG a little further behind my shoulder and higher up. My Sachtler tripod works better if I can get the CG a little higher. Thanks, Garrett |
