What does "supported or recommended" mean in this context? Obviously, other SDHC card/ExpressCard combos have been successful. Is it possible that in the near future ONLY Sandisk Extreme cards used with Sony adapters will work in EX cameras. I know Sony and Sandisk are collaborators, example: SxS, but what is the real message Sony is trying to make?

This is just a marketing blurb and because of the relationship between Sandisk and Sony, they single out the Sandisk SDHC cards as the only ones 'officially' supported.
Obviously, that is not the case, as there are now many reports of previously unuseable SDHC (and SSD) media working flawlessly. Overcranking is the big issue, but even that performance has improved. |

This is great news.
If you filter out the marketing angle, Sony is basically saying that they officially support SDHC + adaptor and are giving us the firmware to make it standard. We are no longer outlaws!!
