XDCAM EX AVi Gotcha with EX1 and EX3.
Found a little gotcha today. If you shoot SD files on a SxS card using a PMW-350 or EX1R and then put that card in an original EX1 or EX3 it won't be recognised and you get a "Unknown Media" error and you can't format or delete the card in the EX1 or EX3 so you can't use it. You have to format the card in a EX1R or PMW-350 to be able to use it again in the EX1 or EX3.
UPDATE: Just been told that this will be fixed in the next firmware update for the EX1, EX3 and EX30. This should be out soon as it will also allow the use of the MEAD-MS01.

That's just one of the many quirks I warn people about in my free 40-minute EX1R update video that was released in December.
Vortex Media: VIDEO & PHOTO Tools and Training I don't think Sony knew about it until I brought it to their attention. One workaround, if you don't have another camera nearby to reformat the card, is to use a computer to get rid of the SD files. In general, I think the integration of SD recording formats has been poorly thought out. One thing I'd strongly advise against is mixing HD and SD on the same card.
