Thanks for the responses guys. It's good to know that SxS was designed to be stable and everyone here has had great success with it. It gives me a great deal more confidence after hearing these accolades. I've been eyeballing the NanoFlash as a secondary option as well. Probably when I do another green screen shoot and can work it into the budget.
Another question... I know that the EX1r will output via firewire to an external drive while recording to SxS, but only if you're shooting 1440x1080. Does anyone know if it would be possible for Sony (via a firmware update or such) to have the camera record 1920x1080 to SxS while outputting 1440x1080 to an external Sony drive (such as the HVR-DR60, which I already own)? It certainly wouldn't be of quite the same resolution as the cards, but would give users an additional safety net when shooting (just in case). While it would be even better to be able to shoot to full raster to both SxS slots simultaneously if desired, this might be a good option for some that already have the equipment. I know the Z7U will record standard def to one and HD to the other. I was surprised the EX1r doesn't have the same flexibility. (although, overall it is rather silly, I guess. All of the years I'd been shooting to tape only I never really stressed about problems... until they happened). |

You can do it with a NanoFlash bu outputting SD over the SDi while shooting HD, but not via firewire.
