350 with Avid, and Psf
I have two questions.
I'm gonig to shoot a project with the PMW350, and yesterday i got phone from the post, and they told me that the Avid media composer 4, which support XDCAM EX throgh AMA, cant open the 350 clips. and the only way is by exporting them to MXF via clip browser 2.6. Does any of you worked with the 350 clips in Avid? The second issue he told me about is that tha XDCAm EX progressive in 25P is actually Psf, which records progresive into Interlace codec. He also told me that because it not a true Progresive it will be harder to convert it to Ntsc if will be needed. Is the EX3, and 350 25P is Psf and not true progresive, and if so, is it really a problem to convert it to ntsc. thanks Amos |

Amos,
Welcome to the cutting edge. The 350 is so new that these kind of issues are bound to come up. Not sure I can answer any of your questions but I would talk to your Avid rep in Israel if there is one or go to an Avid board to answer these questions Good Luck |

There is a new (free at Avid) version update 4.0.5 for Media Composer which specifically adds supports for the new type of files the PMW-EX1r and PMW-350 can shoot. I assume the upate also provides support for 4 audio channels on EX (PMW-350) but am not 100% sure. There are no issues with 25P shot on the EX cameras whether it is PsF or not. Avid 4.0 does an excellent job in mixing and/or converting PAL/NTSC interlaced or not.
