what do you want in next gen EX1?

Or more like, what it would take for me to buy a new EX1-EX3 class model :

1) Sensors with an additional 1-2 stops of sensitivity to shoot noise-free at +6 or +12 dB gain
2) 1080p60 and possibly formats with higher frame rates such as 720p120
3) Selectable bitrate recording at 35-140 MBps with 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 downsampling

Nice to see:
1) CF card interface to allow 45-90 MBytes/second Sandisk cards
2) Superior Viewfinder and larger, higher rez LCD
3) Better metering modes, such as 2D color map with 1/3 stop tones
4) Crop mode for digital zoom on 720p formats
5) Uncompressed 4:4:4 time lapse mode with images stored as PNG

The first thing I really want to see is a 50 Mbps codec - there's a certain sniffiness in the Broadcast sector that "whilst the EX line is very good and very nice - charming, in fact, it's not quite 'Broadcast'" and that 50 Mbps is the line in the sand. Of course, I could just bolt on a NanoFlash (as many do), but all the same - there's that 4:2:2 50 Mbps codec hanging around in the bigger line... And that may be the divide between SxS and SDHC (grins, ducks and runs).

A switch-off-able limiter on the audio? (Haven't tested that on the EX1R yet, but it is Xmas). Some extra pad and gain for the line input would be handy (the concept of Line Level is somewhat variable in the conference and event world).

I do like your timelapse in PNG idea, and we'll always want more sensitivity.

Are they nuts? The EX1 provides a great image.

I wonder if these people could notice the difference when watching on an HDTV in someone's home. Because that's where it really matters.

alright here's the secret everyone...

1. shoot on an EX1
2. transcode to XDCAM HD for delivery (or whatever is the broadcast format)
3. if anyone asks, you shot on an f355

done, secret revealed

I would like for the EX1 to auto focus as fast and accurate as the Canon cameras.

I love the quality of my EX1 except the focus issues and the poor unwanted green tint under flor lights.

Happy Christmas all. I think the BBC's sniffiness is due to their distribution chain - other broadcasters have different systems that do not add too many artifacts to the material.
