Transfer Problem - Transcend 16GB to Sony Card Reader

Hi Folks,

In a situation here in remote Asia.

Sony EX1.
DoRelay SXG 16GB ExpressCard with Transcend 16GB Memory.
Mac Powerbook 1.25 Ghz PowerPC G4 1GB DDR SDRAM 10.5.8
Sony SXS Card Reader.

The Sony SXS Card Reader does not mount the card. It's little indicator light on the Sony SXS Card Reader does not even light up when the card is inserted into the unit.

This is the first time I'm using this SXS Card Reader with the DoRelay/ Transcend card combo

Anyone know what is the 'issue' here?

Big thanks :)

The Sony card reader is a PCI device, so will not read SDHC adaptors which are USB devices.

I would try the card in the camera and see if it can play the clips. Assuming it can, connect the camera to your powerbook by USB and the cards should appear as drives. Then offload.

Beautiful Nick!
It's amazing what one can forget to try when one hasn't slept in a month.
Big thanks :)

Just about any cheap SDHC to USB card reader will work. I'm not sure how "remote" you are but you can find these readers in office supply stores or drug stores or whatever. Any place where you can get stuff for a consumer digital still camera has them.

One tip I've read on the MxM site is *not* to use standard SD card readers. Instead keep the card in its adaptor and use a USB PC card reader.

MxM kindly sent me one free when I ordered an adaptor and SD card from them. I also had another one already that only cost a few pounds.

Ironically one day I plugged an SxS into such an adaptor and sat there worrying that I'd lost the footage. Just as the Sony adaptor can't read USB, neither can the USB adaptors read full SxS!

I just got my EX1R, got a couple of Hoodman adapters with 2 Trandscend 32GB cards...are you all saying my SONY USB SxS card reader/writer (SBAC-US10) won't be able to read/mount the Hoodman/Transcend cards?

I just tried it, you're right, SONY reader doesn't work with non SxS cards...why not, it says USB on the device...

So any recommendations as to a good but inexpensive reader for a Hoodman/Transcend 32GB card. It'll be going to my MAC PRO 3.0

My PCI-E Express Card Reader from MxM express.com lets me read SxS, MxM and Transcend cards.

More Nonsense

Ok..... todays interview spanned across a fresh SXS card and onto the Transcend card that had stuff on it from yesterday.
I've connected the camera directly to the Powerbook via USB and the card WILL NOT mount on the desktop like it did yesterday when I transfered the Transcend's BPAV folder to the Powerbook.

Anyone know what the issue is now?

Huge thanks!

The Hoodman SDHC adapter comes with a small SDHC reader. Any lap top with an HDSC will read them. My post people prefer the HDSC cards because they can be read by any machine.
