Hey Jason, sorry to hear that you're having trouble. The purple smudge in your images certainly looks similar to what I had. My warranty was through a company called Sagemax, I don't think the Sony one was available when I got the camera. I doubt if you need to be concerned about paying anything up front. The reason I had to pay was because Sony isn't an authorized Sagemax repair center, they don't have any kind of deal with them so they don't make payments directly to them. That was the explanation. Before I sent the camera to Sony I had taken it to a well regarded local shop. They correctly diagnosed the problem and suggested sending directly to Sony, explaining that getting the camera properly aligned after replacing this part could be very difficult and that Sony was best equipped to do it. Thus I didn't want to send it to an independent Sagemax certified shop. Hope that makes some sense. In your email you asked about shipping, it was right around $150-
I know how you feel about being without your camera, it does indeed suck. Good luck.

Wish me luck it is being shipped to LA service center via Fed Ex tomorrow... I was going to fly down but sounds like it is going to take a while to complete work... :( I will update once I get it back.
