I would add to the above that I too got the IR situation on the EX3 clarified as I had been told that the EX3 had improved IR cutoff. This is correct. All EX3's compared to EX1's have an improvement in the far red response. The EX3 is a little better than the original EX1 and then the EX1R is better still.

Alister, you had better clarification than I have had. When I spoke to a Sony technician in some great detail about the IR problem, his response was "we hve never heard of this". I pointed him in the direction of some pictures I had put on line showing brown blacks, he suggested I send the camera in for servicing.
The upshot of this matter is, I purchased the Tiffen IR filter - problem solved.

The engineers in Japan are aware of the way the cameras respond to near IR, hence the changes to the EX3 and EX1R.

Alister - Please forgive my ignorance, but is there a detailed description of this IR issue in any of the forums? I bought an EX3 a year ago and have been very happy with the results. What is happening with these cameras?
