Cannot Proceed Message

I have the EX1 and have noticed when I am shooting and try to make changes to the White Balance or the gain control, I get a message in the viewfinder, "Cannot Proceed" Any idea why I get the message and how to bypass it to make adjustments?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Phil

Are you using fully auto? Which WB setting are you using of the three?

Here's The Fix:

Go to Menu and in the menu set that has the icon that looks like four squares (what does that icon even stand for?) look for "Direct Menu" and set it to "Part"or "Off". If it is set to "All" it will deactivate the gain and white balance buttons. Why? Who knows? But this is so random a lot of people when they first get the camera (myself included) freak out at this.

This thread should be a sticky because it confuses A LOT of new EX-1 owners.

Buy Mr Jensen's Vortex guide to the ex3 - all this stuff gets a mention. Can't imagine trying to suss that one out on the hoof.

If you had used the search box at the top of the page and looked for Cannot Proceed you would of had pages of results. This needs to be a sticky as it comes up almost weekly.

Thank you all

I appreciate the fast response and I should have checked the knowledge area first. I do have Doug Jensen's video. Excellent material.
