intermittent audio out of headphone jack. Do I need to send EX-1 into Sony?
Hi there,
My headphone-out jack is causing issues. Sometimes I get sound, sometimes I don't. When I turn my headphone-cable prong in the jack, I can find a place where it works for a while, but never for long. I know it's the jack on the EX-1, and not my headphones, because I've tried two pairs of headphones, with the same result. So my question is, do I have to send this into Sony to get it fixed? I've had the camera for more than a year now, so it might not be under warranty (if it were under warranty, I'd definitely send it in, because I wouldn't mind getting a firmware upgrade at the same time). Thanks for any advice, Malcolm |

I'd try using a tiny bit of contact cleaner/conditioner like Deoxit on the plug. Put a tiny bit on the plug and work it in and out several times. If the intermittent issue still persists, you might be looking at a trip to Sony Service.

Sounds like a loose connection. You do any soldering?

Hi Scot,
I've never soldered, and I wouldn't have the courage to do it for the first time with the EX-1. I'll hope the Deoxit works... cheers, Malcolm |
