Reliability of SD cards or thumb/flash USB drives as deliverables

This probably isn't the right spot for this topic, but I'm an EX1 shooter and I already respect a lot of your opinions.

So what if I have a client who needs a copy of footage we just shot/worked on and its lets say 16gbs worth of data. He/she doesn't want dvds burnt and doesn't want to deal with the overkill of an external hard drive. Could I reliably give him/her a 16gb SD, SDHC card or 16gb flash/thumb USB drive instead? they're so small and compact and fit right into their pockets. is there anything wrong with this idea??? could this work? what do you think?

thanks,
Mike

I have been thinking a long the same lines. Since a USB stick of 8GB costs the same as a high quality tape, could I just use them as backup/storage?

PS Sorry for not being able to give you a good answer

That would be PREFERRED for me. Hand off a small chip at the end of the day and "see ya". Just make sure to include the cost of the media in your quote to the client and how can you lose?

Perrone,
that's what i'm thinking. i just haven't done or seen any "benchmark" type tests of this procedure. my logic says it'll work, but sometimes my logic backfires.
