Cannot Proceed Error Message EX-3
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone has run into the error message "Cannot Proceed" when trying to switch your white balance (A & B) or trying to use your gain switches. I was shooting a concert and trying to "up" my gain and access my white balance memories when this error message popped up. Thanks in advance for any help. Darryl Murphy |

Darryl,
That's one of the common problems I cover in my EX3 Field Guide. Vortex Media's XDCAM Field Guides Go to the OTHERS menu page and scroll down to the Direct Menu setting. Change it to "PART" and leave it there. You probably have it on ALL and tht disables several of external controls on the camera. |

When I first got my EX I used to use direct menu set to part as the switches then worked as you would expect. However now I tend to use direct menu set to all as by using the thumb stick I can set any gain setting, not just the 3 asigned to the switch.

I've struck this problem in the EX1.
1) Gain and WB works as expected. 2) Press Auto button. Try to adjust Gain or WB. I get Cannot Proceed. This I expect. 3) Turn Off Auto by pressing button again. I still get Cannot Proceed when trying to adjust Gain or WB. |

Cannot Proceed Error Message EX-3
Thanks guys...problem fixed thanks to your help. By the way Doug, I bought your EX 3 and Lighting videos-Fantastic. As I'm coming from a Beta SX world of ENG news shooting, it was a great help to smooth out the transition.

Thanks to this post I fixed the problem - but not until after my job finished last night.
But I have experimented a little since. And I understand the principle of using the menu OR the switches. But with the setting set to ALL, I went through the menus and told the camera GAIN to go to +18... But it didn't. It just stayed at -3. .... So I'm still a bit confused. |

You told the camera gain to go to +18 in what setting ?
If you had the +18 setting on the high setting then you need to flick the side button up to high. I have mine set to Low 0 Medium +6 High +9. Then i flip the switch on the side for the different settings. Paul.

If your set to all then the only way to change the gain is via the direct menu. Changing the gain to 18db in the main menu will only change the gain setting for the gain switch, which in direct mode "all" is disabled.

I have run into this problem now.
I did as told here and changed the Direct menu to "part", but I still canīt use the quick menu, only the switches for Gain and WB works. This is really odd and annoying. Anyone got an idea as how to fix this? |

As Alister said.
Direct Menu All - use the joystick, and select any gain you wish (not to confuse with the main menu) Direct Menu Part - use the gain switch (to choose from the 3 settings assigned to it in the main menu).

Hi Piotr
I will try to explain my problem better. When in "part" ONLY the gain and WB switch work, I canīt press the little "wheel" and access the direct menu in the viewfinder. When in "all" I get the "cannot proceed" message as expected when I try to use the external WB switch, BUT I canīt use neither the joystick, nor the "wheel" Itīs like something is wrong, or (more likely) I have some settings wrong. |

Confirmed. Both Alister and myself were talking about Gain. WB is different; you can only dial it freely in Picture Profiles.

But my main problem is that I canīt get the direct menu to work using the "wheel" on the side of the camera.
I used to just push it and I could scroll through the different settings in the viewfinder, like Gain, WB, TLCS and shutter. I canīt get this to work now and I canīt figure out why |

Direct Menu only applies to the joystick.

Hmm, I see.
Still dosenīt solve my problem. I also tried to set it to "all", but my joystick dosenīt work either. So bottom line, at the moment I canīt get the joystick to work OR the "wheel". To change shutter speed I now have to go into the camera menu. I just canīt figure out why the camera behaves in this way. |
