One hour current affair show shot on EX1
Today our show dealing with fish farming of salmon was aired on swedish public service television. We have been shooting it since november and appart from some material from the archives every minute of the 54:30 min show is shot with my EX1. Some of it using the Letus extreme.
Normally these shows are being made with full size cameras but everybody seems to be happy with the quality. It was recorded in 1080i HQ and some of it in 720P and 1080P (the Letus stuff). After some lite grading and sharpening with Boris unsharp masc it was downconverted to DV50. Here is a link to the webcast version: Del 7 av 22 - Uppdrag granskning | SVT Play I am going to make an HD-master as soon as I can but I am not sure that I can share it for copyright reasons. Oh - and it's all in swedish I'm afraid... |

Can I ask some questions?
What did you edit in? What template did you use to edit with as different size footage and I & P? The downconversion was that to DVCPRO 50 SD PAL or was that to tape/ Thanks |

It changed
Looks great!
I started watching it last night and tried to watch more today. It looks like they recompressed it at a lower bit rate when they added the subtitles because what I saw last night looked amazing. This looks good still, but you could really see the camera shine in the original version. Ola, any chance you can provide a link to a higher bit rate version? Excellent work. |

Philippe - I have been using a version of Bill Ravens TC2 where I have a slightly higher setting of black gamma. I have detail set to -12 I think...
Simon - I edit in Avid Media Composer. I set up a full raster 1080i project and ingested 1080i, 1080p, 720p25 DVCPRO50, and DVCAM in their native format and resolution. They all play back in real time in the 1080i project. When I was finished editing I simply changed the resolution of the project to SD PAL added a track with an unsharp mask to sharpen the HD-material and made a video downmix to DVCPRO50 internally in the Avid. After that I exported the video in the native DVCPRO-file format as a Quicktime file that became my master. I then sent the 23 GB file over the public Internet overnight from Stockholm to Gothenburg where they ingested the file into another Avid system where they added titles and other stuff. Benni - I don't remember but I'll try to check it out. /ola |
