Confused with 720/50p going to SD MPEG
I’m really confused with this format 720/50p going to SD MPEG.
If I record in this format I get 50fps but when it’s converted to a SD MPEG through compressor I end up with 25fps. Is this correct that compressor throughs away every other frame to get 25p Pal. I have searched everywhere and can’t find an answer. I have done tests and the 50p going to Pal SD MPEG doesn’t look as smooth as the original 720/50p and I assume this is because I’m loosing frames. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks Nick |

Shoot 720p50 if you are going to deliver 576i25. If your final output is 576p25 then my guess is any encoder would discard the second frame because all the information needed to make up 25 progressive frames is already there.

The final product will be in Pal Progressive.
So the advantage to shooting in 50p is the fact that I can get better slow motion. Is this the only real advantage to shooting in 50p vrs 25p? |

I'd assume what you wish to achieve is the extra progressive frame being used to create the second PAL field
