Live streaming w/ EX1?
Is anyone familiar with using the EX1 for live streaming? If so what output do you use? And could you describe the setup you use (including which EX1 output source)?

Since streaming is usually on the "bad quality" level, using the composite out will do the job.
I do not know many devices that can accept easily component or SDI for simple capture. I found that if you do not get a capture card with Y/C or composite imput, the simplest is to use the firewire input (on a PC for example). This would require you to set the camera to SQ mode, i do not rember that the firewire output is active in HQ mode. The windows media encoder is free and work very well at all quality level you would need. |

If you put the EX1 in 25mbps mode (HDV) so it sends out of firewire, Telestream Wirecast can handle it if you get the HDV software plugin.
Wirecast actually installs a "mini" darwin streaming server in you computer so you can actually stream from your desktop. Telestream Wirecast - Overview |

Windows Media does an excellent job of streaming, can handle HD if you have the card for it, and costs nothing. We've used it for years at my office and stream MANY different things including legal proceedings.
