Sony hasn't made one that I'm aware of. Part of the problem is the weakness of mount on the bottom of the camera - that 1/4x20 hole is in a piece of metal held in place by four eyeglasses-sized screws. However, my fabricator is shipping me a new base/shoulder mount tomorrow for the camera (could be purchased without the shoulder mount also) with a pivoting battery mount for weight distribution. The bottom plate firms up contact with the camera, and a wedge is built into the front of it so that it is compatible with tripod mounts like this: Sony | VCT-U14 Quick-Release Tripod Adapter | VCTU14 | B&H Photo I'll post some pics by weeks end. Here is a drawing: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/961704-post15.html

Yes.

The Pro-Tech is a good option for quick release using the VCT-U14 but it doesn't address the stability/stiffness/safety issue with the EX series. The 3 point vfgadgets system is preferred as it anchors the (EX3) camera in 3 widely spaced places - great for stiffness and peace of mind. The TLS QR plate is a better version of the Pro-Tech (which flexes a bit) but with the same mounting issues (actually, these are EX issues). I anticipate that most of the time I will just use the vfgadgets base-plate attached to one of my tripod heads with the native QR plate screwed into the bottom of the vfgadgets plate. When using rails, I'll stick the Zacuto rail system in between the head and the vf system. Don't know that I will use the VCT-U14 much now but will likely hang on to it. Jus. |

Like the VF Gadgets product but so expensive! Ted, we're waiting anxiously for your version. Any idea when you might be shipping?

Prototype should be on it's way to me today - as a formality. By Friday, production should begin with shipments likely in another two weeks or so!

Here's the range that we've been shooting for - I don't foresee any changes up to this point.
Bottom plates with rear plate and hinged plate (Full shoulder mount) without the electronics - $300 Anton-Bauer is shipping us a mounting plate to demo and the final will have a power cord plus two additional P-Taps - pricing is undetermined. And, there will be an option for non-shoulder-mount customers to just buy the bottom plates to firm up the mounting - this will be substantially less. Later, the rails attachment - but one step at a time.
