SQ 1080 24 captures as 60i?
Just picked up my EX-1 yesterday. I've noticed my SQ 1080 24 content is ingested as a 60i time base. Is there any way around this (short of shooting in HQ mode)? Thanks in advance.

Glen, if your shooting SQ video format then you will have to do a 3:2 pull down (i.e. reverse telecine) to remove the duplicate frames and obtain the desired 24P.
From the manual: "Note on recording formate in SP 1080/24P Mode" "When recording in SP 1440 x 1080 mode at 23.98 in Progressive mode (indicated in SP 1080/24P on this camcorder), pictures are recorded at 59.98 in Interlace mode (indicated as SP 1080/60i) by pull-down processing" If your shooting HQ 1080/24P video format then you have the option of setting the Genlock to 60i (pull down) or 24PsF (progressive segmented frames). The latter Genlock setting will yield 24p without the need for doing a reverse telecine. Reverse telecine in FCP requires a command call to Cinema Tools to do the actual pull-down work. In a windows environment After Effects does the pull-down. Cheers! |
