Profit sharing...
Kensington and the express card companies should share the wealth or at least give a shout out to Steven Thomas and other pioneers on this and other boards for their scientific method and discovery.
And in the process they've given sony something to think about! Greg |

I am a Designer for Engineering company. I have drawn up a design for an adapter that will fit inside the EX1. I am sending the 3d model and Schematic to get an estimate for fabrication next week. I will report back as soon as I get the quote. |

Cool, Brian. And then, if you EX1 owners need to sell your Kensington's, just let the EX3 owner's know!

Kensington is out of stock, too.
Bet those production planners are wondering how come such a niche product suddenly sold out! |

Fade in:
Noisy Shareholders Meeting at a certain company: OFFICE JUNIOR: I told you about the email I recieved two months ago.. CHAIRMAN: "You're fired son." SHAREHOLDERS: "Who's responsible? We make the only Express Card Reader that allows the EX1 door to close, and no one made it work!" CHAIRMAN: "I resign, is it too late to call Sony?" fade out.

Overcranking!
Okay so I had a couple of the tiny 4GB Sony MemoryStick Pro-HG Duo cards sitting here (I use them in my Sony GV-HD700 HDV deck to grab stills for clients) and I thought, hmmm. Wonder if I can record on those babies. Stuck one in the reader (I don't have the Kensington, so do your own tests) and it said "format?" I said well this oughta be good. The 4GB gives 18minutes at HQ. I recorded some and it was fine. I thought hmmm. Wonder if it'll overcrank. Shot some 720/30p at 60 fps and it crapped out after 30 seconds. So I took it down to 50fps and guess what? Filled up the card with that and no errors. So these 4GB cards go for around 50 bucks. The 8GB around $75, and the 16GB around $125. I only have the 4GB so can't vouch for the others. But I am stoked. AND they ALMOST allow the door to close on the EX1. I may take one to the grinding wheel and shave a half a mm off.

Kinda generic, cheap. Got it at Fry's for $25. |
