I received and email from Sony Broadcast The pricing seems to be higher for the EX1 and the Z7.

So it seems my early hints about the price rising have been true, and not just in Europe!

Well - at least the early adopters could carry out their beta-testing for Sony cheaper :)

Does not look like any of the sponsors on this page have adjusted their price on it...

Those are Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Prices (MSRL) and if you read a little closer at some of Sony's international sites, they clearly state that retailers may have different prices. As for the EX1 prices, this has been the MSRL price in Canada since they started shipping the thing at the beginning of the year. Canadian dealers are still pushing for $300-500 off MSRL. I doubt they will be asking full MSRL if they intend to stay in business.

It also stands to reason that Sony is aware of a global economy which has all but stalled. So it is not in their best interest to increase prices if they intend on selling these devices. Fear and intimidation with prices increases do not bode well as a business strategy -- they only push the consumer to walk away -- a win, loose result.

Barry, the price increases in the US have to do with the weaker dollar against the Japanese Yen. It's not intimidation, it's business in a global economy.

The G8 Summit in Japan this week says it all. Japan is howling just as much as the US. Japan's economy is also taking a beating since the old prices have doubled. The Yen is heading south and has been since the huge oil spikes this spring. The investment folks are forecasting the Yen to drop by 8-12% over the next 3-5 years.

The Canadian dollar has been on par with the US for over a year now and our Sony dealers are still expecting $300-500 off MSRP. So what gives here?

Then there always business reality. Sell 50,000 EX3 units at $8300 plus the nice add-ons or $5,000 units at $10,000 with smoke-n-mirrors.

Barry, this is the reason I was given for the price increases while at Sony HQ for training last month. The dollar has dropped quite a bit during the first part of the year.
