European prices rise?
I thought I'd share this with those still sitting on the fence, and considering purchase of the EX1 vs waiting for the EX3 (or something else)...
I just got an e-mail from a Sony Specialist dealer in the UK, stating that on July the 1st, prices are going up as much as 10% ! With the European prices already ridiculously high when compared to those in the US, this is not a good news - so make up your minds quick. Of course, I know nothing for sure - just quoting the email, but the source is credible.

Thanks, Piotr, for letting us know.
And thank you, Sony: That info definetely helps me with my decision to buy in the US.

I caught wind of this through the UK sales channel I bought from. At first I thought 'they would say that'. But I guess Sony have worked out that the EX1 is closer to an F355 than a Z7 and they're doing what any sales manager would do.
After all, isn't this the Sony specialism? They will never let a given product line undermine those above and those below. They will neuter products to ensure a broad choice, ensuring upgrade envy and consumer doubt. Check out TED.com - synthesis of happiness. Why is choice good? Is it good for the consumer or the provider? Why are we unhappier with our choices when provided with a surfeit? Buy now at a slightly lesser deal than previously. Wait, and buy slightly more expensive purchase price. At some point, the couple of hundred you may save/lose must be compared to the cost benefit of JFDI. My EX1 is busy. People like its look. Who cares that there was an original purchase window of a couple of hundred bucks. What this camera can earn you versus what this camera costs is a pretty big margin. No, I don't like paying extra, but it's still not an F-355. If I were Sony, I'd be jacking up the price until the ratio didn't work. It may be getting close. But don't get me started on the cost of SxS.

here in the states,
german sticks, heads and mikes are getting much more expensive now than even 4 months ago when new york's b&h photo last published their pro audio and video catalogs. japanese stuff have been price stable as of late. i guess it's the sorry state of the us dollar and the strength of the euro causing european goods to be so expensive. |
