Best Workflow - in / out of FCP and Color?
I see that Color will export PRO RES HD - does that mean, that it will automatically convert the XDcam footage to pro-rez and then render and then export back to fcp for the best quality?
OR does it render in XDcam and export in pro-rez (thus lower quality)? Otherwise, do I need to convert all my Sequence to PRO-REZ, then goto color and then re-import a 2nd copy of pro-rez? (twice the disc space, plus the xdcam copy of the sequence) Or can I get away with one exported copy of XDcam and one imported Pro Rez from color? Thanks. |

1. In FCP select SendTo->Color
in Color you automatically will be working on the native xdcam-footage. 2. In Color select your export-format (default is ProResHQ) and render it. It will process the frames and then compress them with the selected format. 3. select SentTo->FCP in FCP you then will have a generated sequence with the files generated by Color. |

So, to be clear here - when Color processes the XDcam footage from final cut, it will convert it to 4:2:2 colorspace prorez, then process (in the better color space) and then save it as prorez?
I'm just making sure it is NOT processing it in XDcam in 4:2:0 colorspace and then saving it in prorez. (That would seem rather a dumb option) - but I just want to make sure this is true. So I do not have to convert my sequence to Prorez first (an extra copy) then export to color, and reimport the new seq into fcp. Thanks. |
