I can't answer definitively yet, but my Mac guru, who runs a post house here in NY, and has advised me on all things Mac for years, tells me it will be fine when I asked him that same question last week. I'm just waiting for my "tax incentive check" to arrive before I take the plunge.

Rendering may be a bit slower but I think it can be a good workhorse. |

Slower than a quad or octo macpro for sure but it should still be bearable. There are plenty of us using Macbooks to edit and the iMacs have just as much grunt if not a little more.

I use a 2.4 with 2gb ram for straight forward jobs and it works absolutely fine with FCP6

I have edited with every possible Mac made in the last few years and have never seen a significant decrease in render time when I jumped from a single-core to dual to quad. Yes, they are faster but not so much that you will be sorry for getting the new iMac. So I would say go for it -- those beautiful machines!
