New Macbook Pro... Any predictions when?
Holding out as long as possible but I've got to bite the bullet in the next 2 weeks.
Rumors abound that there will be an announcement just before WWDC in June. Thoughts? |

Hit the mac groups like ...
http://www.appleinsider.com/
go to the forums page ~ there's lot of speculation and time tables for releases on this site. "No one knows. And those who do can't talk. What is known is that Intel's Montevina laptop platform goes on sale late May/early June. So if we're lucky it means new MacBook Pros at or around WWDC. If we're unlucky Apple will take its time to introduce them and it might get as late as September. So anywhere between June and September is a reasonable guess. The known new features of Montevina are a faster memory bus and support for HDMI, BluRay, WiMax and memory > 4GB. If and whether Apple will make use of any of these is your guess." |

Nice work Dean :)
I pushed almost 6 years of work through my old TiBook 667 but it now barley crawl through the web. I'd be happy to get on the front wave of that Nehalem chip... but that's 2009. Montevina...... I guess we'll see. Ahhhh the rumors...... |

Speaking/Thinking as another surfer of the bleeding edge, there are three attitudes to technological cusps:
- The 1.0 is a great place to be, well built and strong. 1.0 cannot afford to fail, and is courageous where others falter. 1.1 is built to a budget and is a lesser beast. - 1.1 or 'Son Of...' is the place to be, learning the 1.0 lessons. It does not falter where others fell. It is the 'real' 1.0, at half the cost. - X.X (the iteration before the Next Big Thing) is a safe bet, every wrinkle is sorted, every question is answered, the last of a great line, no rude awakenings, no dawning horrors. I feel for anyone needing to invest in MBP in the next few weeks. The King is not dead, but the King is riding about in a field full of poisoned arrows. After (egad) 20 years in this game, the 1.0 slot is really quite exhilarating and even profitable having played the 1.1 slot for too long. But to quote Rimmer from Red Dwarf: "who's heard of a worm-skin rug?" Playing it safe with the last of a great line will not get your hide on the wall as a trophy. But then again, if you can wait...

Anyone care to speculate on price. I'm looking at a 15" bottom line MBP for $1800 from Mac mall. I can wait a few more weeks, but if the bottom line is going to raise up significantly, I might as well buy now as I won't be able to afford much more than this.
