Sony extended warranty: how to get it?
Hi there,
I saw mention of Sony extended warranty for the EX-1, at (I think) $159... I want to get this, but my supplier here in Canada seems to know nothing of this. Would someone be able to direct me to some info about it? Thanks, Malcolm |

thanks for the lead, Sutton. I'm getting delivery of an EX-1 any day now as well. It's odd that the place that sold me the camera (that carries Sony products) didn't know anything about this.
Cheers, Malcolm |

I purchased the 3 year extended warranty from Abel right when I bought my EX-1. I think for $160.00 you can't go wrong. |

Wow. Just heard from the people who I bought from here Canada. Sony Canada and Sony USA operate independently:
"The cost for a 2 year extended warranty, to make a total of 3 years (including the original one year )would be: $330.00" Ouch! Do you still think it's worth it? Malcolm |

I bought Sony's warranty with my EX1, but I haven't read the boilerplate yet to see what it ACTUALLY covers. I'm usually better about researching these things but after reading about all the "issues" that these cameras had before I bought, I felt a little safer spending the $160.

Malcom, thanks for sharing your quote. I was told the same thing by the Sony Pro dealer here but quoted $500.00 (full MSRP) for the extra 2 years. Now I'm really glad that I walked away from that place without a camera. As mentioned, with all the issues this camera has (even with its strengths) an extra warranty is prudent, especially for firmware bug fixes. Sony on this product at least has radically departed from its traditional delivery of quality control.

You do need to register it at the Sony ServicesPlus site. George/ |

Thanks George. I did the registration online as well. My problem with reading those contracts is a serious case of MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over). ;)
