EX1 Firmware Version??
Where in the camera do you find the firmware version listed? I've trolled thru the menus, there's no mention in the manual- it's gotta be somewhere.
Does anyone know?? Thanks |

Hold Cancel and sel/set(push in the scroll wheel on the back of the camera) while you press the menu button. 3 new options appear, the last of which will tell you the FW version. Once you "enable" the service menu this way it is active under you power down.

Wow!!
Sony definitely didn't want us stumbling across that one by accident. Many thanks. |

Hello John
My camera is four after yours 200199 with same firmware. Got it early January. Have you had any problems? Mine has vignette top left but local Sony do not yet have jig to adjust. I had back focus problem but seem to have fixed it myself. Malcolm |

I also have 1.02. Don't know serial number, camera from the UK.
I don't think I had any vignetting (performed 2 tests, will do another one for sure), but I did had the backfocus problem, but I could fix it myself. (Not completely gone, but much better). |

Malcolm,
My camera is 200166 - and it is perfect. Was fixed by Sony Australia after it came with vignetting and they did a really good job. Firmware is obviously the same as yours.

As someone who was a facility engineer, some of us need to use the service menus. While I (and others) wouldn't dare do hardware maintenance. some of us may be qualified to do software related routines.
Look at the number of people here who've tweaked and improved backfocus for example. At the very least there are locally authorized Sony service shops who could do some of this in an afternoon without having to lose use of the camera for two weeks which can be a financially hardship for a small facility. Having to ship a camera to San Jose CA (for us in "the states") for a backfocus tweak or firmware upgrades doesn't seem to be the wisest of decisions based on the economy of scale for Sony or many end users. What might make MORE sense is for Sony to publish routines a local service person could do ON REQUEST so such service person can follow Sony procedure for the tweaks. It seems more risky to try to learn this stuff anecdotally on a forum. |
