I am using Avid/Pinnacle Liquid 7.2. I can import video as MXF and put it directly onto the timeline with no rendering.
My friend has FCP and it imports the files directly without the MXF conversion but must render them before they can be played in real time.

We're editing using either FCP or Edius Broadcast 4.6 on a dual boot Mac Pro system. Edius knocks the socks off FCP as far as real time performance and rendering times are concerned. FCP has more flexibility in some areas, but for standard productions that are not heavily dependent upon SFX, go the Edius route, it's much faster and rock solid.

I've tried the PremierPro trial, and I'm downloading a trial of edius 4.6 today, and will post what I think of it soon. It has downloadable sample clips of 1440x1080, I can't figure out if it handles 1920x1080. So far, all the reviews say edius is great. I'll see...
