EX1 with Vegas 8b
Has anybody tried importing HQ 1920 x 1080 25P progressive into Vegas 8B?
The properties list show HQ 1920 x 1080 24P and HQ 1920 x 1080 50i but not 25P |

The "properties list" is just the basic set of ready templates that Vegas comes with. Open the closest one (1920x1080/50i in this case), and customize it by changing field order in the video section from "upper first" to "none"; type in you new template name (like 1920x1080/25p) and save it, using the diskette icon to the right of the name field.
Next time you set up a new project, the saved custom template will be available to you.

Greg, can't you simply change 24p-template property settings from 24 fps to 25 fps?
--- Alright, Piotr has already answered!

Sure, but this will require more changes in the video section (no. of I-frames, video space etc) as 24p is basically an "NTSC" template!

Piotr, you're absolutely right. The 50i-setting is the closest to modify.

So if i'm shooting in 720/50p,here in pal-land,what template should i use ?
Should it be HDV 720-25p ? Or should i be modifying a template ? HD 1080i-50i always seems to look the best when i'm previewing. Also do these templates make any difference when i'm actually rendering to say mpeg-2 or mp4 or whatever ? What template should i use if i've got 1080 and 720,some interlaced and some progressive, all on the same timeline ?

Vegas is known for being extremely tolerant with respect to your project properties; what really matters is your output settings. So yes, you can mix all sort of stuff in the same project/timeline; the only caveat being the previewing will not always be accurate. But once you decide on your final format and render out accordingly, everything will be OK.

EX1 vegas setttings
Thanks Piotr and others.
2 EX1s ara being delivered to me today. Look forward to reporting my progress. All the people who have and continue to post have built up a good background for me before getting the cameras. That plus Doug Jensens DVD workshop 'Mastering the Sony PMW-EX1' which I can definitely recommend. |
