Though when Panasonic introduces larger cards, they tend to discontinue the smaller ones, due to the relatively high fixed price per card regardless of amount of memory.

I don't believe that to be the case with SxS (cost is far more proportional to size, as with CF, SD etc), so hopefully 8GB cards will continue to be on sale for quite a while - but cheaper. I agree with previous posts about the desirability of smaller cards much of the time, and for the EX 8Gb equates to about 24minutes. For many purposes that can be a very useful run time.
