To extend the warranty or not that is....
I never bought extended warranties on DV cameras. I do buy them for my laptops. For a camera of this nature what are people's opinions.

My opinion:
I'll probably sell my EX1 later this year and get an HVX400 Rev C. or whatever (assuming I think it's an improvement for my needs), so I won't get a warranty. In general, I think statistically it's cheaper to not get the warranties and just foot the repair bill if something goes wrong, becuase it so rarely does. And repair bills are generally surprisingly cheap in my experience, for most things (especialy pro gear, which is designed to be repaired). And if anything catastrophic goes wrong, there will probably be used units and refurbished ones to buy by that time. And then you can sell your junker for parts on eBay to offset the cost. |
