Battery Pack squealing - is this normal?

I'm currently charging the little battery that came with the camera and aside from the battery charger being very, very hot, my concern is the high pitched squeal coming from it. Is that normal? It sounds strange.

Mine did that too, I seem to remember it being worse when the LED was light so you could almost hear the led flashing.

That's the Sony-trained gerbil, his name is Gerald and he will charge the EX1 batteries faster if you feed him special Sony cheddar. He squeals when he gets hot and/or tired. ;0)

Seriously though, sounds like it's just a transformer/triac working hard in the charger - Li-ion batteries require a well-regulated voltage & current when on a full charging cycle.

Dave please be serious, this is a professional forum.

Anyway to correct you, it's actually Harold the HD Hamster squealing inside the charger, and he wants more Wensleydale. Get your facts right man.

Whoever it is I hope he doesn't cause any damage.

When I was a kid, my sister had a pet rabbit that escaped and got in the house and ate my Super Nintendo cables. Destroyed them... No more Mario Kart...

AS a yank in the colonies, can someone explain what Wensleydale is?

I know we have had a bit of fun with this one.

I suspect the sound is just a high frequency pulsed charging mode and is nothing to worry about.
