New EX1 firmware through Internet or cam back to Sony?
Reading about future firmware upgrades allowing us to use cheaper Express cards and possibly fixing problems with the first batch of cameras makes me wonder how much of a hazzle a firmware upgrade will be?
My last camera was a PD150 that I never needed an upgrade so I am not familiar with the drill. Can someone enlighten me on the Sony-routines nowadays to do such a thing? Or can I do it myself by downloading i file and upgrading using the USB-connection? |

It has been fairly straight forward to do with the full size XDCAM HD cameras.
Typically, you'll load a memory card in with the firmware in a certain directory and then power up the camera whilst holding down a couple of buttons. Same routine as on my Yamaha Synth workstation, holding down a certain key combo while powering up. You should be able to do it just fine. You'll need to make sure that power loss won't occur in the middle of the process. -gb- |

For other earlier cameras some firmware upgrades where done by user and no need to send the camera back to dealer. Other more complex upgrades where done by authorized dealers at there service dep.
