I think this upcoming $5000 CF recorder which can record up to 160Mbits 422 Mpg2 using the same Sony codec will make this camera a killer product. If you want the extra color information simply record at 50Mbits 422 and essentially you will have the same quality as the upcoming PDW-700 XDCAM HD 422 Camcorder (of course with an inferior lens). If you dial up to Mpeg2 160Mbits 422, you essentially have quality that surpasses HDCAM (160mbits 311 but the codec is older and at least 50% less efficient than Mpeg2) and borders HDCAM SR(its 440Mbits 422 but with the same 50% less efficient codec). That will be excellent news for indies who want to do a film out because the total cost of the camera plus the recorder plus a couple of CF cards will be around Euro 11000 ($14000 taking in account that products are usually cheaper in US). The added benefit of the scheme is that Mpeg2 editing has an established workflow, is real time with an up to date computer and has universal support from all NLE editors at the market – a major plus for those working on a budget. |

That is a very interesting product. Not could work with the EX, but any camera that has HDSDI giving it even more flexibility.
