For that kind of money I would hope it would say Zeiss on it somewhere.

That is not very helpful. Do you have experience with the lens?

Hi Paul
Yes I just used it for a recent 2 week Phantom shoot out in Borneo. It's certainly a big improvement over the Tokina stills lens but its a big increase in money too. I'm pretty sure they are optically the same as the Tokina but it feels very different in use in its cine guise ! Mat |

Can't comment on the Duclos version of the lens, but I have the Tokina 11-16 that they repackage and am very happy with the sharpness and look of the lens. I've used it more for stills than for video, just because it's sooooo wide. It has saved me a couple of times in really tight spaces though..
Not sure if it's really worth the add-on 2.5K + for the Duclos housing. I suppose if you think you'll need to do a lot of focus pulls with it then the housing is worth it... |

I've been very happy with it so far and it looks great when I need a wide-angle. Rick B. also has one and likes his, too. In my opinion, it is well worth the extra cost vs. the Tokina. This is a lens I'll have and enjoy for the rest of my career, so it's pretty cheap in the long-run and will probably hold nearly 100% of it's value when I go to sell it some day. My way of doing business is never to just look at the price of something without also taking into consideration what I'll be able to get for it when I sell it. That's the actual cost. And then the pleasure of using a real cinema lens vs. a SLR lens is simply icing on the cake.

I just reluctantly sold mine. It's a great wide zoom for the money.
Up from this but not as wide, is the Focus Optics Ruby. Super sharp, but more expensive. Look for a better price used. All the best! Dave |

Thank you David,
Look forward to checking out Doug's. What did you buy to replace the 11-16 range? |

I have not yet. I was trying to scramble and needed quick cash to replace some items which were liberated from us. That was my only reason for letting it go.

Re: Duclos 11-16mm PL on F55?
I can't say too much, as it's ongoing and there are insurance issues. But seems to be an inside job at where we were shooting food shots. They got my Sony F35, 3 axis Weaver Steadman, Cartoni dutch head, complete set of Cooke Speed Panchros which were going to be sent in for re-housing after the shoot, Arri MB20II Matte Box, and a Bartech follow focus kit. And I can tell you, it sucks big time! Never ever leave a setup on location which is secure, unless you really know for sure it is secure, like off duty police guarding it secure.

Very sorry David,
From looking at your site I know you would be properly insured, but that does not remove all the stress and time lost. |
