Audio dropout problem with the VX2000

Hi, I've recently been scouring these forums and have come accross alot of useful information, if anybody is able and willing to help me out with this technical problem, I will pray to the god of DV for you...

I've owned a VX2000 for a while now and didn't have a problem with it the first 6 months or so. Then I started having audio dropouts at random points throughout playback. The problem started happening when I switched tape brands (A big NO NO, I now know) and have since ran a cleaning tape a few times, at 10 seconds each time, but the audio dropouts have persisted. I'm pretty sure that a tape-pathway cleaning is required at this point, but the cleaning kit has been discontinued. Can anyone illustrate a way to conduct the same kind of cleaning without the cleaning kit?

Thanks for all your help and advice,
Adam
