Gaffer's Tape + LCD =??

I'm using my trusty PD170 to shoot something that I'd like to be in a 1.85 aspect ratio. I've got a couple of widescreen masks on memory stick that I can lay over the video (Memory-mix) but I realized I'd like to protect while I shoot and mask in post. This means I'm considering sticking some gaffers tape onto the LCD. Is this a bad thing? Will the adhesive do something bad to the screen? If so, are there safer alternatives?

Thanks!

~~Dave

as unsticky as gaffers might be sometimes I wouldn't do it. Taking it off could cause damage-if you really are set on using tape maybe the blue painters tape-it hardly has any adhesive on it OR perhapes you can cut the mask out of black constuction paper to fit the entire LCD and use scotch tape to fasten it to the frame of the LCD that way the tape is never touching the screen itself.
