Help!!! VCR Mode VX2100
Guys I just printed to video from the Mac to VX2100. I played the tape back in the camera and every thing was fine. I ate dinner and went to capture a tape from the VX and I'm not getting a picture on VX's LCD or in the Mac. I put the tape and other tapes in other cameras and the tapes are fine. The LCD is fine when turned on in camera mode. But in VCR mode. It plays, fast forwards, reverses and I can see the icons for these commands but its not giving me a picture when I push play- just a blue screen. I almost feel like I hit a secret button that prevents display, but I've never heard of such a thing. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks, Scott

And now it seems even worse! I go to record and the VX display says its recording (over an old tape). When I go back and look at it in another camera. The old footage is still there, so the VX is not being truthful when it told me it was recording. This seems weird.

I know of 2 other VX's that had to be replaced because of bad heads.

Sounds like the VX is asking for a trip to the repair shop.
Whether your VX is in or out of warranty, I'd recommend Armatos http://www.armatosvideo.com. If the VX is out of warranty, they charge based on the work actually performed, which usually comes out to be a lot less than the flat rate that the Sony Service Centers charge. Do a search for Armatos in this forum, and you'll find a lot of satisfied customers, including me.

Hey Tom and Brandon, the news just sank in this morning. Thanks for being gentle. I will send the VX to NY today. Lucky SOB. I've never been to NY. I hope its not at Armatos long enough to send a postcard.
The good news? Hey! I got back-up cams!

Before you send it off to the repair shop, it might be worthwhile checking to see if there is not a confusion going on between the editing software and the camcorder via the firewire, especially if you are using the software to control the camera via firewire.
Also do you haver another external disk drive running on the firewire as well as the camera. If a manual control of the camera gets done while the camera is on the firewire and the editing software running, sometimes this will confuse everything, the system and camera have to be shut down and rebooted. |
