S.O.S. !!! Does my PD170 need service ?

When I put in the cassette the LCD screen fast flashes the following symbol and code:

1) eject symbol (up arrow with an underscore)
2) Self Diagnosis code in upper right corner : C:31:23

Per the owner manual (page 152) it suggests removing cassette and insert again which I did to no success.

The other suggestion is to remove power source and reconnect then try to operate again to no success.

This symbol/ code happens whether I am in Playback mode or Record mode.

Has anyone experienced this and if it needs repair who can I go to. Since I can fly to just about anywhere in US at little or no cost I am willing to carry my gear to a good service center.

thanks

Maybe it would be a good idea to call the repair centre and ask about the self diagnosis code.

Are you sure the recording lock slider on the tape was not set to disable recording? In that case the camera shows the eject symbol, I think.

Secondly, have you tried with some other tape? Maybe it doesn't like the one for some reason.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Maybe someone else knows better.

Have you tried to pushing the reset button to reset the camera? I would give that a shot next with a different tape.

By the way, where's the reset button on those cameras? It remains well hidden on my VX2100.

It's on the camera body under the LCD flip panel. It's a small button towards the lower right corner as your looking at it if I remember correctly.

Appreciate the suggestions. Will give the reset suggestion a try .

What would still be great to know is where out there is a great Sony Authorized service center or someone who knows how to repair the 170.

thanks again,

Ken
