What does NS 48k mean in viewfinder?

Just a general query that I can not find an answer to in the Sony PD-150 manual.. . . . .in my Pal PD-150 viewfinder it says just under the DV indicator "NS 48k". I know what the 48k stands for but in the manual example it is preceded by FS. What does the NS stand for?

NS means 'not synchronized'. In DVCAM format audio is usually locked to every video frame, in DV is'nt. There are some exceptions.
In practice i have'nt met any problems with non-locked audio, just heard that when feeding from Canon cameras with wrong editing program setup audio can go out of sync.
