AC Power for Sony Video Light?

Hi people,

Now I'm no electronics genius as I'm probably about to demonstrate, but I'm curious as to whether I could adapt my SONY AC-V316 Power Adaptor/Battery Charger in order to provide power for a tripod-mounted SONY HVL-20DW2 (10/20 Watt) video light.

The NP-F batteries obviously work fine with my VX-2000, PD-170 & the video light, but the AC adaptor doesn't quite fit the light. The only difference I can see is that there is a slightly narrower slot on the back, bottom edge of the adaptor's moulded connection, otherwise it would look the same as the back of the battery. The electrical connections are the same and without that obstruction would slot right in.

Of course, I'm guessing SONY have a sensible reason for this, but maybe someone could have a look for me and see if potentially I could run the video light from mains power.

Many thanks indeed,

Colin

They certainly do have a sensible reason for inhibiting the charger>movie light fitting Colin. Assuming you could force it you'd most probably blow the innards of the charger, or at the very least make it shut down to protect itself.

On its own it gives a tiny current - enough to gently charge normal batteries. The 10 + 10w movie light takes huge amounts of power in comparison. Stick to batteries on the lamp my friend.
