Need some advice
OK Guys,
It looks like I will be getting about $5000 for a new camera setup but I have a few questions... Whatever camera I get I will be using for my own projects like taping concerts and other events. I will also be teaming up with some guys from work who have XL2s to shoot weddings. I am just concerned about the XL2s low light issues for doing the concerts that will usually be indoors with stage lighting. It would be nice to get XL2s like the other guys have but do you think I am better off with a PD170 or even a used PD150? I like the fact that the Sony cameras are known to be better in low light but I also like that the XL2 has the 16x9 and 24p. As you can see I'm a little torn and could use some of your input, especially since I will probably be getting it this weekend or next week. Thanks for any help guys... Jim |

I'd go for the new PD170 if I were you. You'd put $1000 into your back pocket and that'll get you a nice wide-angle and buy some steadycam training. Or get you a new editing pc.
Of course if the director insists that you shoot 24p you're done for with the Sony, but if it's really going to be a low-light operation the 170 will shine, even in it's 16:9 mode. tom. |
