Lens hoods and specialty items
I have been looking for a lens hood and some specialty (threaded) filters and lenses for my trv17 and trv950. Does anyone know of a good supply house for this type of item?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

By specialty, do you mean something that cannot normally be found at B&H or other major store? Or from Century Optics who happen to be owned by one of the major filter manufacturers?

I've mentioned this before in a few places: For all sorts of odd sized and shaped lens hoods and for filters, head for a large and long-established photo (film) store. Sometimes they have bargain bins just filled with such things, at giveaway prices. I ran across the equivalent of a yard sale at one shop this year. They had tables full of every kind of filter, step-ring, hood and related stuff.
I spent 20 bucks and walked away with all the accessories of this sort I'll need for the next 20 years. I even found 58-72mm and 72-77mm step-rings, which I wouldn't ever have imagined even existed and gave new life to several hundred dollars worth of large, old filters I hadn't used for years. I think some of this was World War II surplus (olive-drab cartons with military-type spec numbers), but it works. Steve McDonald |
