Canon ZR series transfer Sony recorded tape?
Does anyone here use a Canon ZR series cam to transfer their Sony cam recorded tapes? I would think playback would be fine not sure though. Would just buy a 1 chip sony but the canon is about $100 less.
Thanks. |

I'm not sure what you mean by transfer. Do you mean capturing the contents of a Sony created DV tape onto a computer? If that is your question, then pretty much all brands work fine. On many occasions I have used my Canon Optura Pi to download tapes that were shot using my VX's. However, I would recommend getting a Sony camera for downloading rather than a Canon. The Sony cams that use the HAD technology sensors can be color matched pretty well to the VX and PD series cameras. This means that you can shoot backup footage with your download camera and often use it in your actual production. No matter how much I play around with it in post, the color from my Canon cannot be made to match my VX's. Hence a non-Sony download camera becomes just that, and nothing more...

Yes I understand about the color matching. This cam would be hooked to my mac constantly. Would probably never shoot with it. Wasnt sure if the different brand tape mechanisms would have an effect on how the tape winds and sits on the heads etc.Basically I dont want to use my PC-110 which is also my 2nd cam to my VX as a deck anymore and just stick to shooting with it.
