Gritty focus ring problem

I just bought a VX2100 as an open box item from Best Buy. It looks to be in perfect condition except for a problem with the focus ring. 90% of the time, the focus ring is just fine but now and then it has a gritty feel that you can even hear. It sounds like there is sand in there.

What should I do?

Return it to Sony for repair.
