Vx2100 Audio Metering
Group,
I'm down to 2 cameras in my purchase list and have downloaded the manuals for both the Canon GL2 and the VX2100 and have a question that I need a user to answer. One of the things that I require in my viewfinder is audio metering, does the Vx-2100 offer this feature. According to the manual it does not appear to do so, the GL2 does and since I'm shooting with both wired and wireless mics and a mic mixer I need to make sure that I'm not saturating the audio channels. Please let me know... |

The VX2100, and well as the 2000, PD150 and PD170 have audio monitoring bars on the LCD and viewfinder. I have a PD170, and had a 150, and I would never shoot anything without those meter bars on screen.

Frederic, are these active at all times along with shutter and F-stop? The manual gives the impression that the only way to get the audio levels are to hit a menu button to bring them up and they would only be up during that time, not all the time. Thanks in advance for the clarification... MIGUEL |

Yes, the audio indication is active all the time, it is how I tell my wireless is still functioning.
In fact the last wedding I did, the wireless receiver went out during the reception, and I caught it right away with the audio bars. |

on the 150/170 and the 2000/2100, there are two types of audio bars in the Viewfinder and on the LCD panel.
The informational bars are always on. Horizontal bars with a red dot at the end if you clip (150/170 don't have a color viewfinder so it's a white dot) If you push the chrome button next to the thumbwheel, the bars change to calibrated bars with dB markings and the scale for the gain position is also displayed. If both channels are in manual, pushing the thumbwheel in will switch between channel 1 and 2 (150/170 only)
