PD 170 electronic shutter?
Anyone have more info. on the usage of this feature? When it's turned on, does it override the shutter speed when in auto mode and or manual mode when the window is not visible? Or, putting it another way, does it have to be "on" in the menu to enable auto shutter speed function when in the auto mode?

Auto shutter is just that. It works when the camera is in the AUTO mode and will adjust as needed to compensate. For example IF the camera is running in auto mode with auto shutter and the iris is wide open and it needs more the camera will adjust the shutter to a slower shutter speed to give it what it needs versus raising the gain. For many types of work this is not good, IE faster motion such as dancing or many types of sports. IT might give you too much motion blur.
Personally I have never in my life used auto shutter. Don |

thx for the reply.
yep, that's what funny about it. I would expect the shutter and iris to be in auto mode when the camera is. However, this feature seems to allow you to turn off the auto shutter even when operating in the auto mode. |

the iris is but if the shutter is set to "off" it is set to whatever speed you set regardless of whatever else you have set in auto.
again, for a camera like the 170 using auto shutter is IMO not only a waste of a great camera but something that should never be done simply because you have zero control over the camera BUT if it works for you, great. Anyway that's how auto shutter works Don |
